Mitch and Nick of Strangebrew

Hello, we’re Strangebrew

Formally known as Mitch & Nick.

“We’re a directing duo. We can ride a tandem bicycle, paddle a canoe, play doubles ping-pong, etc. You get the point. We think two is better than one.”

Strangebrew is known for directing grounded, dry, and witty performances that centre around human truths. While they always show up with a plan, they love collaboration, alt-lines and improvisations.

Mitch, a former two-time olympian; knows exactly what it takes to compete, trust in the process, and see a vision through.

Nick, did not go to the olympics. Not even once.

They both perform in rock bands, drink strong coffee, and reside in Western Canada.

Together, they direct comedic commercials with expressive performances, drawn-out pauses, and cinematic imagery. They care more about tone than spectacle. Nick focuses on performance while Mitch works with the DP to dial in a beautiful frame. Again, two directors are better than one.

Occasionally, they like to tell human stories in the form of short documentary films. They can also drive a boat (see image).

Why strangebrew? You’ll have to ask them. Either drawn from the canadiana duo Bob & Doug, or the song by Eric Clapton’s band “Cream”.
